Incase you haven't been reading, Justin has been blogging lately. You can read his entries at the journal section on the MCS website. Among the various projects he talks about, he mentions that he will soon begin the "Antonia project" and will post videos on YouTube:
also, on december 29th heidi olsen and i begin shooting for "the antonia project" which will take us from minnesota to florida, wrapping on the 10th of january. i will post weekly blogs on youtube for each day of shooting, eventually leading up to the video itself. so look out for that starting sometime in january.

So stay tuned for that.

Justin also mentions that he will be at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah to perform a 30 minute set on January 20th. He says he will play around 3pm (right before Metric) and will most likely just be playing MCS songs (the festival's site actually says 3:50, so I don't know, if you are going just keep an eye out).

There's only about two weeks till the new album is out!! How exciting!

I've added a few more pre-order links to the homepage of the site. Some new special offers have popped up. If you pre-order from the Motion City Soundtrack online store the first 500 orders get a signed insert and you also get the opportunity to purchase a limited edition Even If It Kills Me t-shirt. If you pre-order from Smartpunk or Interpunk you also get a signed insert while supplies last. Of the three, MCS's online store is the cheapest option.

Also, if you're just trying to find the cheapest place to get it, it looks like Best Buy will have the CD on sale for $9.99. I'll keep you posted if I find anywhere that is cheaper.

On June 19th Brett Gurewitz (owner of Epitaph Records) co-hosted the Punk Show with Mike Davies on BBC Radio 1. One of the tracks they played happened to be "Broken Heart" (the first single from Even If It Kills Me). You can listen to the show at bbc.co.uk/radio1/mikedavies. If you are having trouble finding it, you can fast forward about 1 hour and 33 minutes in... clicking the 15 minutes button about 6 times should get you to 1 hour and 30 minutes in then just wait.

If you're looking to purchase "Broken Heart", downloadpunk.com has both the regular version and clean version available for a pre order, and a picture of what appears to be the single cover art. The single will be officially released at midnight EST on June 26.

Motion City Soundtrack's splash page at motioncitysoundtrack.com has been updated with what appears to be the new Even If It Kills Me album art (shown below). The Epitaph newsletter for this week also says this:

"Broken Heart will be the first song you'll hear off their amazingly amazing, catch, fun, exciting new record Even If It Kills Me - Sept 18th. I won't hype it up too much, but MCS does NOT disappoint. The digital single will drop next week along with a sweet new video. Keep a look out for a new and improved album cover too. See them this summer with the Higher."

... which suggests that this is likely to be it. yay! What do you all think? Personally I like it MUCH better than the previous version that Epitaph had put up.

Motion City Soundtrack has announced (in a MySpace blog) that the upcoming UK tour dates they had scheduled for next week will be postponed until September. The new dates will be announced in a few days and tickets purchased for the June concerts will be honored in September. Additionally, the band says that they will be able to add more shows to the tour, including some places that they have not played before. You can read part of the message below:

Due to scheduling issues with the new album we regretfully have to announce that we are moving our June tour dates to September. We apologize for this delay, and please know that we are disappointed that we cannot make it over as originally planned.

These shows will be rescheduled for September and we'll announce these new dates in a few days, in fact, before end of this week. All tickets purchased will be honoured for the September shows, and if you cannot attend the new scheduled date you will be able to get a refund at the point of purchase with full booking fee. And while it's a bummer we can't come in June, moving to September will enable us to add more shows in more markets; markets that we're very excited about playing for the first time!

A while ago we all voted for Motion City Soundtrack in the AOL Sessions Undercover poll. There was some bugs in the poll which allowed us to just vote over and over again by holding the button down, which I think might have made AOL not consider MCS the winner. Well, they have since improved the poll, and you can still vote multiple times, you just have to manually vote, which makes things more fair. So please go vote for MCS whenever you are bored! They're only losing by 10% right now (they have 6% and This Providence has 16%). Go vote!! -- AOL Sessions Undercover

Unfortunately MCS has had to back out of Dillo Day for medical reasons. You can read an article about this here and see an excerpt from the article below.

-----------------------------------------

Expected Dillo Day performer Motion City Soundtrack has cancelled its performance on Saturday, Mayfest organizers said.

Managers for the Minneapolis-based pop-rock band told event organizers that the band's lead singer, Justin Pierre, was dealing with "medical problems," and that the band would be cancelling its entire tour, said Liz Korutz, director of concerts for Mayfest and a Medill senior. The band's Web site lists four tour dates in the United Kingdom starting in June and 17 dates in the U.S. for the rest of the summer, including an appearance at Lollapalooza on Aug. 4.

Before they received the notice, Mayfest organizers were still planning for three of the band's members to perform an acoustic set around 1:30 p.m., said Korutz, a former Daily staffer. Festival organizers still plan on having an act perform at that time.

-----------------------------------------

Let's wish the band the best!

MCS has been added to the lineup for Northwestern University's (Evanston, IL) Dillo Day concert on May 26. You can read an article about the concert at the Daily Northwestern's website. The article mentions that the concert organizers are still making final arrangements and signing contracts with the band though. Also, the article indicates that the performance might be acoustic. See some excerpts from the article below:

The schedule has not been finalized, but Francis and Motion City Soundtrack will perform sometime between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on May 26, representatives said. They will join rapper Lupe Fiasco and alternative band Cake, which are scheduled to perform at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.

------------------------------------------------

Organizers said they may be working on the concert lineup until Dillo Day itself. Whereas the university has already signed off on contracts for Cake and Lupe Fiasco, Mayfest only began working on contracts with Francis and Motion City Soundtrack this week and final arrangements are not yet complete.

Announcing performers without finalized contracts is unorthodox, but "for all practical purposes, all have been confirmed," said Medill senior Liz Korutz, Mayfest's concert director and a former daily staffer.

------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, Motion City Soundtrack's acoustic performance will cater to the "rock-emo-alternative" crowd, Korutz said. She compared them to emo band Mae at last year's Dillo Day, but, she added, Motion City Soundtrack is "more popular."

You can check out an interview Matt and Josh did at Bamboozle on absolutepunk.net. They talk about the how the Even If It Kills Me cover artwork that Epitaph posted was not the final cd cover and that the tracklisting posted is probably going to wind up being right. They also give reasoning for moving the album release date up to September 18. Go check it out!

Yes, it is true, Even If It Kills Me will be coming out on September 18th instead of July 17th. A lot of people are upset/confused/wondering why the album release was pushed back 2 months... Matt wrote on the MCS boards about it just to clear everything up so you can go check that out. He says that they wanted to hurry and have the record come out on July 17th, but that it was becoming difficult. By pushing the album up they can take their time a little more. So there ya go!
Posted May 9, 2007 11:53 pm EST

On motioncitysoundtrack.com there is an update indicating that the cover art and tracklisting posted on epitaph.com on May 2 (and taken down later) might not be final. They also indicate that the album will be out on September 18 rather than July 17, so maybe they have pushed it back? Here is what their update says:

"Hi everyone, hope all is well. Anyone catch The Great American Freedom Machine at Bamboozle over the weekend? We heard that they were pretty good, but we also heard that they ripped off a lot of our material. Damn them!

Speaking of Bamboozle, we heard that there were a lot of rumors floating around regarding our new album. Well, we just want to set the record straight: To put it simply, the album will be out on Tuesday, September 18. Any artwork, track listings, or other info regarding Even If It Kills Me that you may have heard, seen, or read is not necessarily what you will find come September 18. Maybe, but not necessarily. Everything is still in the works... That's the truth and nothing but the truth kids!

Lastly, almost all of the presale tickets that went on sale yesterday are gone. There are a few tickets left in a couple of markets, but they'll surely be gone any minute now, so don't wait. Go a here to take advantage of the presale.

Thanks much (and as always) for your support!

Some people have been wondering who the support will be for the shows in the UK in June. According to the Mean Fiddler's ticketing site, OK Go will be the opener. I am unsure if that is right because of OK Go's tour schedule in the US. I'll keep you posted.

Speaking of the UK, Kerrang! magazine is reporting that "This Is For Real" will be released as a single on June 25th. Not sure if this is only a UK release or if it will be a single in other countries as well.

People have confirmed that Motion City Soundtrack did play under the name "The Great American Freedom Machine" last night at the Bamboozle. If you were there send in a review, I think everyone would love to hear about it!

If you look at the "Gab" section of the Bamboozle's website, you'll see this:

"Today is Monday, April 30th, that means we only have five days to figure out all the fakers who remain at large. If Thursday is supposedly Bearfort, than who is The Death Of...and The Great American Freedom Machine. Everything is going to be alright from what I hear, loose lips won't sink my ship....You all have no idea how much fun awaits you in East Rutherford."

Motion City Soundtrack will NOT be playing a show at Kent State, as previously thought. The concert was supposed to be in March, but the band had scheduling conflicts (as they are currently finishing up their new album, Even If It Kills Me). You can read an article about this at the Stater Online.

Karen
Is the snow always whiter on the other side of the street? Karen spends her day off catching up with some old friends, but it is the friend that she is about to meet that will change her bleak view of her world. Motion City Soundtrack frontman Justin Pierre recently put down his guitar and picked up a camera. The result was a 18 minute 16mm short he titled Karen. Justin is currently recording with Motion City Soundtrack and Cars frontman Rick Ocasek, but will be back behind the camera this spring when he co-directs the music video "Big Drag" for Limbeck. Justin is represented by the William Morris agency. Producer Shane Nelson became a producer/director to score chicks. For more information on Shane Nelson please visit www.omni-fusion.com.

July 17, 2007 - Even If It Kills Me

YES! We have a release date and title for the new album! This is such exciting news. Motion City Soundtrack posted their first webisode today, and you can watch it at epitaph.com. The webisode shows them working on their new album and Justin talks about writing lyrics. At the end the album name and release date is revealed. There is even a little bit of new material in it, so check it out!

In site news, I added a countdown to our homepage so you can countdown to the new album! Also, I decided to add a photo gallery to the site. Pictures are going to be a lot more organized now. All the live show photos and fan photos will now go in this gallery. I added a fan photos section for Beth photos too, so if you have one with her send it in and I'll upload it. If you have any pictures to contribute send them to mcmemories@gmail.com and if you need credit be sure to include your name and I will write that you submitted them. Let me know what you think.

This contest has been going on for a few weeks, and the last day to enter is March 5th, so I thought I'd post it. Vans is giving away a pair of Vans customized by the band, and also autographed posters and CDs. Head over to the Vans website to enter. Goodluck!

Some things I have been pondering for this site are maybe adding a photo gallery and maybe having a media section where you all can submit wallpapers and icons and things like that. We'll see.... give me some feedback if ya want :)

Most of you know who MCS's merch girl Beth is by now (if not, you can check out our interview with her here). Well, her and Justin are going to be doing an advice podcast called 'Late Night with Peenytees and Roonytunes', probably launching in a few months. In the meantime, you can send them questions at peenandroon@gmail.com. It is going to be a webcast advice column, so you send them a question, and they'll give you their answer. Keep checking Beth's site for updates, the podcasts (when they begin) will be available there.

Just added a FAQ section to the site. I'm going to be adding more questions the next couple of days, and if you have one you'd like to see on there leave me a comment and I'll see what I can do.

MCS has been updating everyone on the recording of their new album. You can check out their journal on their official site for updates. They've just finished up doing a bunch of songs with producers Adam Schlesinger and Eli Janney and will be working with Ric Ocasek starting March 1. Josh also mentioned that Max from Say Anything, Rachel from Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer, and Shawn from the Matches have done some guest vocals on the album. Very exciting!

A couple more European festivals MCS will be at have been added to the tour page, so check that out if you live over there. One festival is in the Netherlands and another in Germany.

Lastly, I've updated the site a little. I got my first affiliate, go visit Shiloh's Hot Hot Heat fansite at lelelow.com. I'm also looking for a few more affiliates. If you are interested e-mail me at mcmemories@gmail.com and let me know. I am looking for sites for bands with a lot of good content, and it would be preferable to affiliate with sites of bands with a similar fanbase (maybe even bands that have toured with MCS).

Motion City Soundtrack is currently working on their new album in New York with various producers. Here is an update that is posted on their website at motioncitysoundtrack.com:

"Hi all! New York City in January? Yes, that's where we are, and it is where we will remain for the next couple of months... Miami? LA? Nope, we picked the Big Apple to spend our Winter months tanning. Why you ask? Because we're here working on our new album, that's why! That's right, we're wrapping up the writing process this coming weekend, and then we'll hit the studio next week. We're so stoked to be working with people that we've always admired as not only musicans, but as producers as well. Part of the record will be co-produced by the tag team of Adam Schlesinger (of Fountains Of Wayne) and Eli Janney (of Girls Against Boys), and part of the record will be produced by Ric Ocasek (of The Cars). Needless to say, it's going to be a fun adventure over the next couple months.
Xoxo - Team MCS"

In other news, it looks like the band will be playing a show at Kent State University sometime this semester (possibly their annual FlashFest on April 19?), according to a mention in an article in the school's paper. An older article had the concert scheduled for January 27, but it has since been removed from their events calendar, so I am thinking they re-scheduled. I'll post more information if any comes out.
